Armin A. Preiksaitis & Associates Ltd. was retained in 1998 as the prime consultant to prepare a new Municipal Development Plan for Fort Saskatchewan (population 13,109).

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is an important industrial centre for the petrochemical sector in Alberta. The main issues being addressed are developing and evaluating alternative growth options associated with new and proposed petrochemical plant expansions.

Fort Saskatchewan is one of only four municipalities in the Edmonton region located on the picturesque North Saskatchewan River. The plan builds on this important natural asset to enhance community liveability.

Fort Saskatchewan is one of the oldest settlements in Alberta and the site of an early North West Mounted Police post. The plan builds on this rich heritage to enhance the City's tourism potential.

Public consultation is an important aspect of the planning process. Stakeholders were engaged in identifying issues, opportunities, and strategic directions for the plan through key person interviews, workshops, and open houses.
